Mesa... What a Place-a!

Just a quick update on today’s match.  We took all 3 courts, but it was not very satisfying.  Mesa CC had to forfeit line 3, which stunk because we didn’t find out until the last minute. Linda and Alison had already driven all the way out there and had to drive right back again. I still feel bad about that.  Jill and I skunked our opponents, 6-0, 6-0, in a match that we can’t even gloat about because it was so uneven.  Congratulations go to Eddi and Barrie for winning 6-3, 6-4 in what looked like a good match.  Nice job, ladies!

The next three matches are home (hurray!)  Welcome back, Bobbi.  Sandy, please let us know when you’re ready to return to the lobster pot.

For our Weds. 9:00 drill with Corey we have, Marty, Barrie, Linda, and Bobbi.

Janet, please know that our thoughts and prayers are very much traveling with you as you support your daughter through this terrible ordeal. We know you’ll update us when you’re able.  And don’t worry about the tennis, we’ve got your back until you’re ready to play again.

Congrats for winning our match against ACC on the 18th.  We took two courts (way to go Alison, Linda, Jill, and Eddi!). Barrie and Marty lost a tough match on line one against some very good players.  On the bright side, we learned a lot about what not to do from our loss, and we had a good lesson with Cory on Wednesday strategizing how to deal with tougher opponents who hit unexpected shots.  The main thing we took out of the lesson was the importance of communication.  According to Cory, it is fine to talk to your partner throughout the match and warn them where to be depending on where you hit your shot.  For example, if you hit a short shot, warn your partner to back up so they don't get pummeled with a volley.  Some of us had the impression that too much court talk was frowned on (especially if it is distracting to the opponent), but, according to Cory, it's not only legal, but highly encouraged. Also, a key point that he keeps helping us remember is... as soon as the opponent hits the ball, SPLIT STEP!  Don't worry if you think you're in the wrong spot.  You'll have much better luck judging the ball and moving to the ball if you're standing still (in the ready position).

As before, our thoughts and prayers are with Janet.

Nice Girls Win!

Oh yeah, Baby!!!  Eddi and Barrie took court 1 in a 6-2, 6-1 beautifully played match.  Jill & Alison, determined to win in straight sets, pulled out a little magic in the second set to put the Divas away for good.  Lesson of the day: Politeness is a virtue.  So glad the Lobsters don't disrespect their partners... so glad the Lobsters are kind when delivering balls to the opposing server... so glad the Lobsters don't fail to call the score when they're down... so glad the Lobsters have CLASS.
Best wishes for safe travels for all of our Lobsters this week!!!

Lobster Ledger for Monday, October 4th

We took the top and the bottom courts and had some great matches on all 3.  Barrie gets the tough as a lobster shell award this week for stretching so far to get a ball that she fell and jammed up her wrist. It is all better today!  Marty & Barrie set a Lobster record by winning all 345 deuces (slight exaggeration)  in their match and losing zero.

Speaking of jams, we're in a bit of one for our match next week with the Desert Divas at Winfield (the club up in Carefree).  Linda, Denise, and I will all be out of town. Bobbi's not here yet, Sandy is still injured, and I'm not sure yet about Janet.
That leaves:  Alison, Barrie, Eddi, and Jill available to play.  If we have to we can forfeit a court, but I'm checking into getting a sub to play with Janet if she's back. Or we could sign up a sub from La Cam really quick. If anyone has any ideas about that let me know.
